First of all I want to apologize to my five readers for being absent but life is crazy. I have been taking my real estate classes and have been busy studying. It has taken up my whole life but with this Memorial Day weekend I have a little more time. Today I spent the day with my son on his last day of school; and like most last day of school activities there were a lot of parents. Some were there to be supportive in the silly activities that were set up (like myself), other were parents there purely to get as many pictures as possible to make the best scrapbook and others, still, were there to just talk to other parents.
As we moved from activity to activity I would catch bits and pieces of the conversation at hand. None of it was very interesting but something did catch my ears...the moms started talking about what they do and don't let their children (this is third grade) watch on television and movies. The debate of PG vs. PG-13 started, well I wouldn't really call it a debate because no one really argued. One mom said "oh I would never let my kids watch BLAH BLAH movie" and the other lemmings all chimed in and said "oh you are so right." "yes I agree" Every time an obviously alpha mom said something the beta moms all agreed. It was strange. I mean I know some of these beta moms and I know that they are smart women so why would they all just agree? Especially since I know that some of those moms actually let their kids watch all kinds of questionable stuff on T.V. and movies.
The conversation switched from movies to men, not terribly shocking since it was an age group of 30-40 something women. Then the alpha mom started to complain about her husband, telling the beta moms about her man's short comings but what was really blew my mind was what the beta moms did. They chimed in! Talking smack about their husbands! What?! In what universe is it ok to bad mouth your man? If their husbands were doing this, I am pretty sure these women would break out the teeth and nails. Now I know no man (or woman) is perfect and we all have our issues but to air your dirty laundry to everyone and anyone (like myself) who can hear it is, in my opinion, just wrong. With utter disgust and disappointment I walked away.
So after purposely trying not to hear anything else these women had to say the four hour morning finally went by. I packed up my kid and got out of Dodge. And that's how my day, so far, has been. I am going to try and find some intelligent conversation to block out what was put in my brain.
Until next time...
